Stoney needs our help ! Because of my recent illness a friend of mine is fostering Stoney and taking him for me. She is taking him in on the 24th for his first surgery. Please say a little prayer and keep him in your thoughts for the day. I will post updates here as they come in. UPDATE: 07/26/2008 - The clinic called and said that the swellling is going down and he is doing well. UPDATE: 07/25/2008 : Stoney is doing well but has a lot of swelling so the vet wants to keep him over the weekend. UPDATE: 07/24/08 - Anne reports : ok..just spoke with Dr who said Stoney's first surgery went well as we found this problem early. Stoney has an excellant chance for recovery. The second leg will be operated on in a couple months. Wants to make sure he is healed good and up and about with the first surgery. Dr Travis sounded pleased. I am so relieved he is out of surgery. I get so scared when these little yorkies have surgery or any toy dog. The blood work was good so that relieved a bit of pressure from my nerves. Dr Travis said if Stoney continues to do well..I can pick him up in the morning. He will be here in an area designed for him and his recovery..right by bobs chair. so he will be monitored ... I will use the pee pads on the tile floor...his bed he is used to sits low on the ground...food and water dishes and a few toys..not many but a few. so I think he will be fine and most likely wanting to get out and run with the other dogs..this will be the big issue here..is keeping him off his rear legs. I think if this happens i will have a crate near by. bob can make sure he is crated if he starts jumping.all in all is a very blessed day! I hate to ask again but we need your help with a very special little boy. Stoney is a 10 month old, 4.5 pound AKC Yorkie. He is sweet, has wonderful manners, and tries so hard to be a normal little boy but he was born with a genetic leg problem called Leg-calve Perthes Disease (aseptic or avascular necrosis of the femoral head) Leg Perthes is a very painful condition so the quicker we can get his surgery done the better for his pain control as well as his ability to lead a normal puppy life, but our last three surgeries have left our bank account drained to say the least. Stoney will need surgery on both hips and upper legs to remove the affected bone and the vets say that his body will grow those areas new and he should be fine and most times they do not even have a limp. We are asking for donations to help with his surgeries. We are calling different vets to get pricing now but as with any bone surgery, it will be expensive. One person can't afford all that he needs but together with everyone giving just a few dollars we should be able to get this boy back on his feet. As with all of our rescues, Stoney will need a forever home. He is sweet, loves to sit on laps, and gets along well with other dogs. Other than this condition, Stoney is a very healthy, happy boy.
